Overview

Un soplo de aire fresco, de Don Winslow, autor de otras obras como El poder del perro o Muerte y vida de Bobby Z, es una novela negra que representa el primer caso del investigador privado Neal Carey y la primera novela del autor. Un soplo de aire fresco fue nominado al Premio Edgar Allan Poe de novela de crimen y misterio. Se trata de una serie diferente de Don Winslow, con un personaje que evoluciona a lo largo de sus entregas y que transcurre a caballo entre Londres y Nueva York. Es una faceta de Winslow desconocida hasta ahora pero que no defraudará a sus lectores. Su siguiente novela, Muerte y vida de Bobby Z, fue llevada al cine en 2007. Su última novela, Los reyes de lo cool, es la precuela de Salvajes, que el oscarizado director Oliver Stone convirtió en un éxito en 2012.

Neal Carey no es un detective privado común. Licenciado por la Universidad de Columbia, creció en las calles de Nueva York del lado oscuro de la ley. Después conoció a Joe Graham, un detective privado con un solo brazo, que lo adoptó cuando era un adolescente y lo puso en contacto con «el Banco», una exclusiva institución de Nueva Inglaterra que se ocupa de hacer felices a sus clientes y sacarlos de líos. Con una educación exquisita subvencionada por «el Banco» y una educación que no se encuentra en los libros de texto, gentileza de Joe, consistente en saber seguir a un sospechoso o registrar una habitación sin que nadie lo sospeche nunca, Neal está preparado para la vida. Y es el momento de pagar su educación. «El Banco» quiere que Neal utilice sus habilidades para encontrar a Allie Chase, la hija adolescente rebelde de un prominente senador que no puede permitirse tener cabos sueltos ahora que Jimmy Carter está a punto de ganar la nominación del Partido Demócrata y él puede convertirse en su compañero de fórmula.
